Karen de Segundo

Karen de Segundo received her Masters of Law from Leiden University in 1970 and an MBA from Michigan State University in 1971.

She is currently a Member of the Supervisory Board of E.ON AG since April 2008 and of the Royal Ahold NV since April 2004. She has been a Member of the Board of Pöyry Oyj since March 2005, a non-executive director of British American Tobacco Plc since October 2007, Lonmin Plc since April 2005 and Ensus Limited since June 2006.

Karen de Segundo was Chief Executive Officer of Shell International’s Renewable Energy business which she built from a minimal presence in Solar and none in Wind to being a then top-tier player in both sectors, largely through acquisitions.

Prior to that, she was CEO of Shell’s Global Gas & Power business during a very high growth phase in which Shell’s LNG production capacity grew by 40% to some 10 million tonnes per annum. Karen led the divestment of Shell’s assets in coal (Australia) and forestry (Latin America and Africa) in half a dozen deals.

Her 35 year international career in Shell included postings to Brazil, Uruguay and the USA.

In addition, she was a non-executive director of BlackRock New Energy Investment Trust from 2000 – 2009, and a member of the General Electric Eco Advisory Board from 2006 – 2009.
